False Dilemma

False Dilemma is when there is an argument or conflict and people think that there are only two sides. It is when people think that if one side is wrong, then the other must be right and there is no in between. A good example that occurs often is in politics. A lot of the time the Democrat and Republican parties of the American government are so divided that they absolutely refuse to agree on anything and they automatically only agree with the complete opposite of the other party.
When it comes to standardized testing in Florida there has been arguments over what is to happen to try to help make it a better system. The school board has decided to get rid of FCAT and replace it with a new test called the Florida Standards Assessment. A lot of people think it is a horrible idea because it heavily relies on technology, which has been an issue, and because it evaluates teachers, grades schools, and measures student’s ability to perform. The Legislature did not approve of it at all and demanded it get reviewed while the superintendent, Robert Runcie, thinks it is exactly what the school system needs and does not see anything wrong with it.
